In a nation where pillaging was brought upon through brute brutality and some compromises, the Native Americans see the civilized men as a virus. They infected the Native Americans by implying that they need help in their undeveloped civilizations. John Lemme Deer sarcastically explains that the Native Americans were helpless, and they were a dying nation needing order in their lives. "We were in really bad shape before the white men arrived and I don't know how to explain how we were able to manage without these fundamental things that (so they tell us) are so necessary for a civilized society."
