Slavery in the
U.S captured the eyes in America quicker than any other movement before
it, especially during the Civil War. During, and before the civil war,
many were treated badly, mostly African Americans were slaves during
that era and mostly all of them were uneducated. The slaves were treated
as animal or toys. When slaver was abolished after the Civil War, the
idea of slavery is still kept alive thats why they never got anything in
return from being mistreated by the whites.
I support
Thomas Sowell's idea of refuting reparations because its true that
slavery harmed a lot of African Americans. However, it happen more than
200 years ago and most of the slaves back then is probably dead by now.
If you give the African Americans in present day reparations, they would
only benifited what happen to the real slaves. You go out to the
society today, you probably wont find anybody who is suffering from
slavery. If you give them their reparations now, after 200 years, you
will probably start the slavery trend of thought back, making them think
like a prisoner again. It will start more trouble then it ever started
with. If you give everybody reparations then the rich folks would also
get them too or the one not in need. If you give the ones in need only
then the other African American will also say that "why did he get but I
didn't" or pretending to suffer from slavery so they could get the
reparations. True reparations should be done, but it should be done 200
years ago rather than now, the society is settling right now why digged
up what has been buried. I believed that no evidence - based attempt has
been made to prove that a living individuals have been adversely
affected by a slave system. Right now was not as bad as it was before
the slave - owners died already and including the slaves.
